Transforming lives one at a time through free Maths and English lessons in Cambourne
Blossomify are thrilled to share the incredible impact of the free Maths and English after-school sessions provided through their community project in Cambourne. Over the past months, this initiative has touched the lives of many vulnerable secondary school students in Cambourne and surrounding villages, empowering them with essential skills and opening doors to brighter futures.

About Blossomify CIC
Blossomify CIC, was founded by Ruth Musimbago, a Teacher and Public Health Consultant.
Before its formal establishment, Blossomify conducted Zoom sessions, training, and informal meetups with local families to craft its vision. These small but significant steps laid the foundation for what Blossomify is today—a Community Interest Company dedicated to positively impacting the lives of young people, children, and adults who are deprived and socially underprivileged and those at the verge of school exclusion.
Blossomify meets for 2 hours every week at the Bowls Pavilion, CB23 6FY, a building owned by the Cambourne Town Council. To improve accessibility and inclusion, some lessons are conducted online every week.
In recent years, Cambourne has seen an influx of new families from diverse backgrounds due to the rapid development of West Cambourne. Many of these families, particularly those from Ethnic minorities, have faced unique challenges. Some of their children, especially secondary school students, struggle with English proficiency and integration into their new environment. Recognising this need, Blossomify started offering free English and Maths lessons to these children. Word spread quickly, leading to growing interest from other parents. To meet the increased demand, Blossomify recruited selfless, friendly, and DBS-checked volunteers who have been a great pillar in the success of the projects.
Making a difference
The free lessons have provided vital support to secondary school students from diverse backgrounds, equipping them with the tools to overcome personal and educational barriers. By creating an inclusive and supportive environment, the organisation has helped enrolled children from the community build confidence and achieve academic success. These are humble beginnings of community work, but the success stories are worth shouting from the rooftops.

Stories of success
Here are just a few inspiring examples of how this program has changed lives: (not real names used)
- Marie: A single mother of two, from the Ukrainian community. Her son in Year 11 was struggling with English having recently moved to the UK. Blossomify through the After School Bells Project enrolled him and this is what Marie had to say:
“These free lessons were a helping hand for my son, I can now hope for a future for my son without feeling overwhelmed.”
- Mark’s transformation: A secondary school student who struggled with English as a second language, Mark improved his writing and communication skills through the classes, enabling him to improve in school and participate confidently in group activities.
“The support I received last year changed my outlook in school,” Mark said. “I feel like I have a brighter future ahead.”
- Sara’s growth: A recent immigrant and secondary school student, Sara faced challenges adapting to life in Cambourne due to limited English proficiency. The classes provided her with the tools to communicate effectively, excel academically, and connect with her peers.
“I finally feel like I belong,” she expressed.
Community impact
Since the program’s inception, Blossomify has:
- Delivered over 158 hours of free lessons so far.
- Helped 50+ secondary school students access revision resources and achieve personal and academic goals, some of whom are in Year 11.
- Fostered a network of support and encouragement within the community.
Blossomify’s mission extends beyond education. They are dedicated to transforming lives by fostering a sense of belonging and providing innovative programs that address social and financial disadvantages. Through mentorship, parental support, and engaging activities, they aim to reduce antisocial behaviour, enhance social integration, improve academic performance, and strengthen family relationships within the community.
