Our Workshops
Recruiting & Retaining Volunteers
You will get to explore what organisations need to have in place to recruit, support, retain and manage their volunteers. You’ll also be given a detailed resource pack.
Who is this workshop for?
- Experienced volunteer managers will get the chance to review their current systems and practices and explore best practices.
- Less experienced volunteer managers will gain the information and confidence they need to develop or start implementing volunteer policies.
What will you learn?
- How to develop or update a recruitment strategy
- Gain an understanding of different methods of recruitment
- Best practice in engagement, support and management of volunteers including developing key policies
- Gain an understanding of what motivates volunteers and contributes to retention
Inclusive Volunteering
By the end of the session, you will have improved your knowledge of inclusive volunteering and learned practical ways to implement an inclusive volunteering policy.
Who is this workshop for?
For those managing volunteers or volunteer-led groups, who want to ensure their organisations are delivering on their commitments to equality and diversity and are operating an inclusive approach to volunteering.

Managing Challenging Behaviour
By the end of the session, you’ll have a better idea of how challenging behaviour develops, how you can address it and how you can seek to resolve it.
Who is this workshop for?
The course is for anyone who manages volunteers and spends time trying to deal with challenging behaviour.
What will you learn?
- Key causes of disagreement between people
- People’s different approaches to conflict

Legal Issues for Volunteer Managers
The workshop and handouts will give you a concise and engaging review of the information you need to help your organisation meet its legal obligations to your volunteers.
Who is this workshop for?
Volunteer managers, who are looking to refresh their existing knowledge, or those looking to build their competence and confidence in meeting legal requirements.
What will you learn?
- Importance of differentiating volunteer roles from employment and avoiding creating a contract
- Correct handling of volunteer expenses
- The steps to ensure only suitable people are taken on to volunteer particularly when working with children and adults at risk of abuse
- To gain an overview of aspects of lone working, insurance for volunteers and copyright

Supervision skills
By the end of the session you’ll have a better understanding of:
- setting up or reviewing a system of supervision
- recognising the importance of clear role descriptions and volunteer agreements
- exploring how different people respond to supervision
You will also have had the chance to work on developing your own supervision skills.
Who is this workshop for?
The course is for anyone who needs to make sure the needs and interests of the individual are being balanced with those of the organisation.
What will you learn?
- Different approaches to supervision
- Impact of monitoring and evaluation
- People’s different motivational characteristics and how this impacts supervision
- Supervision skills including developing active listening skills, assertiveness and how to give and receive feedback
