Fenland Volunteer Fairs: Highlights from Wisbech and What’s Coming in 2026

Last month, we held the Wisbech Volunteer Fair and what a wonderful day it turned out to be! The community came together in a spirit of giving, connection, and enthusiasm. It was a powerful reminder of the passion for volunteering here in Fenland, and how much can happen when people and organisations unite in one space.
Our Fenland Communities Officer, Sarah Hall, said:
People often come to us and say that they would love to volunteer, but just don’t know where to find out about it. Because of this, we now have Volunteer Cambs — a portal with lots of opportunities. But if you want to come and talk to someone directly, then the Volunteer Fairs are a great way of doing this. Just pop along, have a wander around the various stands, and speak to those you’re drawn to — what a great way of finding out what’s out there for you!
A Day to Remember
We were thrilled to welcome many organisations and visitors from across Wisbech and the surrounding area. Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive, with organisations rating the event highly. Attendees found the venue well-suited and appreciated the welcoming, accessible environment.
Some of the highlights from attendees really captured the spirit of the day. Many spoke about the positive atmosphere and the sense of community that filled the room:
Lots of lovely conversations with engaged potential volunteers.
Great atmosphere and community.
Warm welcome … it was a lovely vibe.
Camaraderie – good to catch up with other charities.
People who came seemed genuinely interested in being involved in something.
There was a genuine buzz in the air, from both the visiting public and the organisations taking part, creating an uplifting reminder of just how powerful community connection can be.
The numbers:
- 128 conversations between organisations and the public
- 37 people expressed an interest in volunteering
- 4 people signed up on the day for volunteering roles
- 10 out of 11 organisations said they would attend again

Why It Mattered
The Wisbech Volunteer Fair wasn’t just about tables and leaflets, it was about connection, awareness, and inspiration. Organisations had the chance to tell their story, and members of the public could explore how they might contribute their time, skills, or energy. That exchange between passion and purpose is what makes these events so powerful.
The sense of community among the organisations themselves was also clear. Many remarked how nice it was to meet, share, and collaborate with neighbouring groups. In a landscape where resources are tight and challenges are many, that network effect truly matters.
What’s Next: Fairs Across Fenland
If you couldn’t make it to Wisbech, don’t worry, there’s always next time! Why not make it your 2026 resolution to join us at one of our upcoming Volunteer Fairs? We’re taking everything we learned in Wisbech and building on it, better acoustics, broader promotion, and maybe even more frequent events. And of course, we’ll bring the same warm welcome, collaborative atmosphere, and infectious energy that made the Wisbech fair so special.

These fairs provide more opportunities for people in Fenland to find local causes to support and for organisations to recruit, network, and inspire.
