Shining light on REMO
REMO is an award winning Social Enterprise and Charitable Trust that is celebrating over 20 years of positive impact for people and the planet.
REMO
Having directly supported over 10,000 household and community group members and helped more than half a million people decorate their homes using recycled paint, repurposed furniture, creative resources and reclaimed movie materials.
Under the colourful REMO umbrella there are several planet positive schemes that help reduce waste, reduce the impact of poverty and create opportunities for local people to participate in creatively accelerating the transition to an equitable circular economy.
You can buy REMO’s many products at their two shops, one in March and the other in Wisbech Cambridgeshire or through one of their many stockists across the UK. They have also embraced online retailing utilising their own website shop, eBay for change and Vinted.
Who are they?
Their story began in 2005, when they started raising awareness about reusing and recycling at a time when some councils didn’t yet offer recycling services. Since then, they have expanded the initiatives under their colourful umbrella, contributing to the circular economy by reducing waste and keeping a wide range of resources in use for as long as possible. Today, they operate from two locations in Cambridgeshire, run an online shop, and manage a portfolio of people- and planet-positive schemes.
In 2024 REMO were able to raise the capital and social investment required to purchase their March factory site and the adjoining building. They have since raise additional funding to undertake renovations to transform the building from a cold dark factory into a vibrant and welcoming community space that includes rentable workspaces, a Makerspace, Digital Lounge with hotdesking and access to shared resources for other community groups.
The support they have had from funders has been transformative and they gratefully acknowledge that this incredible achievement would not have been possible without grant funding and support from:
The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority’s (CPCA) Market Towns programme which was awarded to REMO by Social Enterprise East of England (SEEE), the CPCA’s delivery partner. The funding is specifically designed to support the growth of social entrepreneurship and boost the social economy ecosystem across market towns and rural areas.
The VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme Capital Grant Scheme managed by Groundwork UK enabling community organisations like REMO to undertake capital investment in energy saving measures.
SIB The Social Investment Business who provided blended grant and loan finance to support the capital purchase of The REMO Eco Hub.
