Short term opportunities

Volunteering doesn’t always mean giving up lots of time. There are many opportunities available to suit even the busiest of people. Short-term opportunities in the area may show up on the VolunteerCambs site or local Facebook community pages.

Where can I volunteer for just one day?

There are lots of ways you can help at events from stewarding and fundraising to participating and running activities. Events provide a fun and rewarding way to volunteer on an occasional basis.

If you see an event advertised that interests you, it is always worth checking the organisation’s webpage to see if volunteers are needed. As well as checking out VolunteerCambs you can check out Cambridge City Live and contact them to get involved.

Where can I volunteer for a few weeks?

There are organisations that are happy for people to volunteer a few hours as a one-off or who, need help over short periods.

These might include community lunch clubs, art groups, summer holiday clubs, animal refuges, charity shops and many more.

You could be doing anything from chatting with people, helping animals, serving refreshments, playing sports, tidying up, or raising funds for good causes. Whatever it is you will be making a difference to other people.

Please be aware that volunteering roles which involve working closely with vulnerable people and children require safeguarding checks (DBS). These checks take a little time to arrange so if you have only a very short amount of time to offer you probably won’t be able to volunteer for this sort of volunteer role.
