Shining light on CARESCO – Sawtry

CARESCO is a unique standalone charity based in the village of Sawtry, near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, which offers 14 services to the community and surrounding villages.

These services include The Charity Shop, The Cave, Chatterbox, Strength & Balance, Car Scheme, Green End Day Club, Coffee Shop, Community Support, Christmas Day Lunch, CARESCO Garden, Tuck Shop, Sounds Good and The Sawtry Foodbank.

They publish and deliver a magazine called the Sawtry Eye, giving details of what activities within CARESCO are coming up. Local businesses and community groups also advertise in it.

They are the proud recipients of the Queens Award for Voluntary Services.

There are lots of ways you can get involved and help with the great work of CARESCO, they rely heavily on their volunteers and are always keen to register new people to help within their projects.

Our service users feel the benefits of the charity, it is a pleasure to see how much of a difference they can make to their day, whether by providing them with company and a hot meal through their Green End Day Club, taking the worry out of getting them to a medical appointment with the help of their Car Scheme or ensuring they receive that much needed prescription from their Community Support project.

Many of the villagers also enjoy visiting their charity shop which offers the best bargains money can buy whilst, along with much needed grants and donations, ensures that it is helping to raise funds to keep the CARESCO wheels keep turning.

CARESCO Charity has been around for over 43 years, it has grown to accommodate people’s needs, like many other charities it has had its struggles whilst coming to terms with changes that have been essential but it will continue to offer what is needed by its communities – support, companionship, care and direction in whatever way it can.
