Coping with difficult and challenging behaviour – FULLY BOOKED
Who is it for?
For staff and volunteers of voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations especially those in public-facing roles
What is it about?
Working with people with complex lives can be difficult, especially when people you support might display strong defensive or aggressive behaviours that can interrupt constructive and meaningful engagement. Dealing with challenging behaviour can also impact on the wellbeing of staff and volunteers and on morale and retention. To support you to work effectively with clients who may exhibit challenging behaviour, this workshop explores the causes and looks at strategies and timings to manage and de-escalate potentially difficult circumstances.
What will you learn?
- What causes these behaviours, we will look at the stages of triggering challenging behaviour and how to respond to deescalate these triggers
- We will also look at boundaries – these help you define what you are comfortable with and how you would like to be treated by others. How can you put these boundaries in place and maintain them?
What to expect?
A mixture of presentation and discussion
