Building multi-cultural practice – making services inclusive and welcoming
We live in a society of diverse cultures. However, across society prejudice, exclusion, and discrimination against racially minoritised groups continue to exist and this includes in the VCSE sector. The session will be delivered by Cambridge Ethnic Community Forum (CECF). This training is part of a range of equality, diversity and inclusion training and advice offered by CECF.
Who is it for?
This course is aimed at those working or volunteering in small groups who are interested in multiculturalism and want to find out how to make their services more inclusive and welcoming.
What is it about and what will I learn?
This session will explore the huge benefits of multi- cultural practice to organisations and will consider:
1. information on the racial and religious diversity of Cambridge and surrounding areas;
2. cultural frames and some differences in diverse cultures;
3. marginalisation, microaggressions and othering;
4. what multiculturalism means;
5. the benefits of multicultural practice;
6. exploration of how to build multicultural practice;
7. suggestions for future action.
What to expect:
The workshop will be interactive, delivered through presentation, group discussion and reflection. Participants will be encouraged to use their reflection and knowledge to share ideas about developing multicultural practice.
